Sharon Cummings splits her life between living in Tampa, Florida, and Venice, Italy. She has a masters degree in Fine Art from the University of Florida, College of the Arts. Despite having a masters, she considers herself self-taught in art, “True talent is revealed not through schooling but through painting.” She says on her website. Cummings has a very strong affection for abstract art, and she also enjoys impressionism and mixed media work.
Each one of Cummings's pieces is produced using only her best quality paints, canvases and mediums. “My art is created for people with a true appreciation for both exceptional craftsmanship and high-end materials.”
I was drawn to Cummings's paintings through her use of bright, vibrant colours.
What I like about her work is that she strays away from using the colours which are natural to the animals she paints, for instance she doesn't paint a black and white cow, or a brown horse, she'll use an array of different hues mixed with blacks and whites to create a beautiful, abstract painting. Each and every animal or person she paints uses the same hues and techniques. In a way it shows how we're all in fact equal, and she shows no bias to painting people of the same race as her in a more favourable way, nor does she make a farm yard animal any less glamorous looking than one of her exotic birds.
I found out all this information from her website and facebook page.
The photo I chose to represent her work by is titled 'Squeal Appeal' and was painted in 2010. I didn't choose this one over the rest of her work for any particular reason, seeing as most of her work is pretty similar.
